Tisamatic Chooses Sumitomo's Astero Fractional HP Gearmotors to Modernize and Expand Product LineJune 9, 2004
The Tisamatic/Sumitomo team: Jose Martinez - Design Engineer and Cristobal Villalobos, Consumer Products Division Manager of Tisamatic, and Gustavo Rodriguez Operations Manager and Jorge Lopez, Sales Engineer of Sumitomo Mexico.
Tisamatic, of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, has chosen Sumitomo's Astero Fractional Horsepower Gearmotors to automate a traditional product, and to expand its market potential. Tisamatic, a member of the Xignux companies, has been a manufacturer of manual corn grinders since 1937, which are used for milling cor n into tortilla flour. Currently, up to 90% of these manual products are sold into the more remote, rural areas of Mexico.
In an effort to expand into other markets, Tisamatic has upgraded its product line to include a motorized grinding mill, due to hit the market later this month. The Tisamatic product has long been known for its durability and quality, with cast metal construction unlike most products in its price range. Sumitomo's Astero gearmotor provides automated grinding for the new generation product, which has been proven successful in rigorous grinding tests that include harder foods such as chickpeas and coffee.

"We believe that we have a distinct quality advantage," stated Cristobal Villalobos, Tisamatic's Consumer Products Division Manager. "Our grinders are robust, with metal construction, and have good capacity." Villalobos also noted that the Astero gearmotor is extremely small in comparison to its power capacity, making the overall product design more compact and appealing to their customers.
"Astero is every bit as robust as the Tisamatic grinder's metal construction housing and grinding mechanism," added Marcelo Zapatero, General Manager of Sumitomo South America. "The net result is a top quality product, which will be key to breaking into new markets such as commercial food stores."
Tisamatic intends to expand its markets into the United States and South America, and to broaden the grinder's uses to include coffee, grains and nuts.
"It is a great compliment to Sumitomo to partner with such a large and well-respected company like Tisamatic," concluded Zapatero.
